About this piece
This flash piece is inspired by Omni-Man from Invincible, reimagined as Mermaid Man for a fun cartoon mashup. I wanted to keep Omni-Man’s powerful, serious expression recognizable while combining it with the bright costume, starfish mask, green gloves, and exaggerated colors of the Mermaid Man look. The blood splatter adds another layer of contrast, mixing the brutal energy of Invincible with something nostalgic and goofy. It’s a weird combination in the best way and gives the design a bold comic-book feel while still being immediately recognizable to fans. I’d like this piece to be done rather large and take up a good portion of whichever body part we choose. The larger size will give the portrait, hands, starfish mask, costume, blood effects, and smaller graphic details enough room to stay clean and readable while allowing the overall composition to make a bigger impact.
